Funding Sources
Casa de Peregrinos is a United Way agency and receives some funding from the organization; we receive funds, as well, from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and from public and private grants. Staff and volunteers spend considerable time researching and writing such grants.
We buy much of our food (at a reduced rate) from the Community Action Agency, which also gives us food outright from time to time.
We also depend heavily upon donations from individuals, businesses, churches, and service organizations and social clubs that include us in their budgets. Schools, as well, sometimes sponsor food/fund drives for our benefit.
In addition, we receive food from the annual Postal Carriers Food Drive and other food drives, from backyard gardens and area farmers, and from certain stores. Cash donations buy most of our food, which we distribute at the rate of one ton per day.
